Ezetimibe and Fenoglide
Determining the interaction of Ezetimibe and Fenoglide and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Before taking fenofibrate, tell your doctor if you also use ezetimibe. Both medications can be harmful to the gallbladder, and these effects are increased when the medications are used together. Symptoms of gallbladder side effects include severe stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, unusual weakness, or fever. If you take both medications together, tell your doctor if you have any of these symptoms. You may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely use these medications together. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Concomitant use of ezetimibe may potentiate the risk of cholelithiasis associated with fenofibrate and other fibrates. Fibrates can increase cholesterol excretion into the bile and cause cholelithiasis. In dogs, administration of ezetimibe for one month increased the concentration of cholesterol in gallbladder bile by 2- to 4-fold, although administration for one year did not result in gallstone formation or any other adverse hepatobiliary effects. In a study of 32 healthy hypercholesterolemic adult subjects, coadministration with fenofibrate (200 mg once daily) increased the mean peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) of total ezetimibe by approximately 64% and 48%, respectively. These increases are not considered clinically relevant. Ezetimibe (10 mg once daily) did not significantly affect the pharmacokinetics of fenofibrate.
MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised during coadministration of ezetimibe and fenofibrate. If cholelithiasis is suspected, gallbladder studies are indicated and alternative lipid-lowering therapy should be considered.
