Consumer:

Omeprazole may interfere with the absorption of nilotinib when these medications are taken together. This may reduce the blood levels and effects of nilotinib. If possible, avoid taking omeprazole or similar medications during treatment with nilotinib. Your doctor or pharmacist may be able to recommend alternatives to omeprazole that do not interact with nilotinib. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

GENERALLY AVOID: Chronic use of proton pump inhibitors may significantly decrease the oral bioavailability of nilotinib. The mechanism is decreased solubility of nilotinib due to increased gastric pH. Nilotinib's solubility is pH dependent and it is insoluble at a pH of 4.5 or higher.

MANAGEMENT: The concomitant use of proton pump inhibitors should generally be avoided during therapy with nilotinib.
