Determining the interaction of Morphabond and Zyvox (Linezolid Tablets) and the possibility of their joint administration.

Check result:
Morphabond <> Zyvox (Linezolid Tablets)
Relevance: 11.10.2022 Reviewer: Shkutko P.M., M.D., in

In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.

Consumer:

Talk to your doctor before using linezolid together with morphine. Combining these medications may, in rare cases, cause serious side effects such as extremely low blood pressure, shallow breathing, and coma. This interaction has never been reported with linezolid, but has occurred with other medications that have similar effects as linezolid. You may need to wait 14 days after stopping linezolid before starting treatment with morphine. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

GENERALLY AVOID: Coadministration of opioids with irreversible monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) has been associated with isolated reports of marked sedation, hypotension, respiratory depression, and coma. The mechanism is unknown, but may be related to additive CNS and respiratory depressant effects. The interaction has been reported with propoxyphene, morphine and methadone, although the safe use of MAOIs with opioids including methadone and morphine has also been reported. Linezolid is a reversible, nonselective MAOI and may theoretically interact similarly with opioids. However, the interaction has not been studied or reported in the medical literature. Moclobemide, a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A, has been reported to potentiate the effects of propoxyphene in animals.

MANAGEMENT: The use of opioids should be avoided in patients taking MAOIs or within 14 days of stopping such treatment. The same precaution may be applicable to linezolid, although clinical data are lacking.
