Consumer:Ask your doctor before using methylPREDNISolone together with aldesleukin. MethylPREDNISolone may interfere with the effectiveness of aldesleukin in treating your cancer. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:GENERALLY AVOID: Glucocorticoids may antagonize the immunoregulatory properties of aldesleukin and reduce its antitumor effectiveness.
MANAGEMENT: Although glucocorticoids can attenuate aldesleukin-induced side effects including fever, renal insufficiency, hyperbilirubinemia, confusion and dyspnea, concomitant administration of these agents with aldesleukin should generally be avoided. However, patients who develop life-threatening signs or symptoms may be treated with dexamethasone until toxicity resolves to an acceptable level.
