Consumer:Using zafirlukast together with aspirin may increase the effects of zafirlukast. Contact your doctor if you experience worsening asthma symptoms, skin rash, bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness, nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes). If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Aspirin may increase the plasma concentrations of zafirlukast. Coadministration of zafirlukast (40mg/day) and aspirin (650mg QID) has produced an approximately 45% increase in zafirlukast plasma concentrations. The mechanism and clinical significance are unknown.
MANAGEMENT: Patients receiving this combination should be observed for changes in the efficacy and safety of zafirlukast when aspirin is started, stopped, or changed in dosage. Zafirlukast dosage may need to be adjusted.
