Acetaminophen and butalbital and Novo-Peridol
Determining the interaction of Acetaminophen and butalbital and Novo-Peridol and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using haloperidol together with butalbital can decrease the effects of butalbital. Contact your doctor if you experience seizures or develop a fever. You may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Barbiturates may decrease serum butyrophenone concentrations. The mechanism may be related to induction of the CYP450 metabolism of butyrophenones. Although phenobarbital is the only barbiturate specifically implicated in this interaction, other barbiturates may participate as well. Additionally, one fatal case of hyperpyrexia has been reported in a patient treated with haloperidol for barbiturate withdrawal.
MANAGEMENT: Close observation for decreased neuroleptic effect and fever is indicated if these drugs must be used together.
