Acetazolamide Injection Solution and Clozapine Oral Suspension
Determining the interaction of Acetazolamide Injection Solution and Clozapine Oral Suspension and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using acetaZOLAMIDE together with cloZAPine may decrease your white blood cell counts. You should seek medical attention if you develop fatigue, dizziness, fainting, unusual bruising or bleeding, fever, chills, diarrhea, sore throat, muscle aches, shortness of breath, blood in phlegm, weight loss, red or inflamed skin, body sores, and pain or burning during urination. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: One case report has suggested that combination of carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (CAIs) and clozapine may increase the risk of neutropenia. The case involved methazolamide, and the authors speculate that acetazolamide may participate in this interaction as well.
MANAGEMENT: Close monitoring is advisable during concomitant use. White blood cell (WBC) counts and absolute neutrophil counts (ANC) should be measured regularly according to official recommendations, and clozapine should be discontinued if cell counts fall below critical limits. Patients should be counseled to notify their doctor immediately if they experience influenza-like symptoms, fever, or a sore throat.
