Consumer:Before taking cloNIDine, tell your doctor if you also use NIFEdipine. You may need dose adjustments or special tests in order to safely take both medications together. This combination may have additive effects on lowering your blood pressure. You should take cloNIDine at bedtime and notify your doctor if you feel dizzy or faint. It is important that you tell your healthcare provider about all other medications that you are using including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using your medications without first talking to your doctor first.
Professional:MONITOR: The hypotensive effects of nifedipine and alpha-adrenergic blockers may be additive. The proposed mechanism is additive vasodilatory effects. Postural hypotension may occur.
MANAGEMENT: Hemodynamic responses should be monitored during coadministration, especially during the first few weeks of therapy. Patients should be advised to take the alpha-blocker at bedtime and to notify their physician if they experience dizziness or syncope while awake.
