Adriamycin and Mercaptopurine Suspension
Determining the interaction of Adriamycin and Mercaptopurine Suspension and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Mercaptopurine given intravenously in combination with mercaptopurine has been reported to cause liver damage in rare cases. It is not known whether mercaptopurine given orally has the same effect. Call your doctor immediately if you have fever, chills, joint pain or swelling, unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash, itching, loss of appetite, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, dark colored urine, light colored stools, and/or yellowing of the skin or eyes, as these may be signs and symptoms of liver damage. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: The concomitant administration of mercaptopurine with doxorubicin may increase the risk of hepatotoxicity. The mechanism is unknown. Hepatotoxic effects have been reported in patients receiving doxorubicin and high doses of intravenous mercaptopurine. The applicability to therapy with oral mercaptopurine is unknown.
MANAGEMENT: If concomitant therapy is needed, it is recommended to monitor patients for clinical and laboratory signs and symptoms of hepatotoxicity.
