A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Talk to your doctor before using albendazole together with carBAMazepine. Combining these medications may reduce the blood levels of albendazole and make it less effective in the treatment of certain types of infestation. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications, or your doctor may consider prescribing alternatives that do not interact. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Coadministration with inducers of CYP450 3A4 may decrease the plasma concentrations and half life of the active metabolite of albendazole, albendazole sulfoxide. The therapeutic efficacy of albendazole in the treatment of systemic helminthic infections, such as neurocysticercosis, may be reduced. This interaction is not clinically significant in the treatment of intestinal infections.
MANAGEMENT: Monitoring for altered clinical efficacy is recommended. Dose adjustments or alternative treatments may be required if an interaction is suspected.
