In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.

Consumer:

Using alfentanil together with other medications that cause central nervous system depression such as diazePAM can lead to serious side effects including respiratory distress, coma, and even death. Decreased blood pressure and changes in heart rate may also occur during anesthesia with these medications. You should be closely monitored by medical staff during your procedure. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

GENERALLY AVOID: Concomitant use of opioids with benzodiazepines may result in profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and death. Intravenous diazepam administered immediately before or after a large dose of alfentanil may cause hypotension secondary to vasodilation. In addition, additive central nervous system and respiratory depression may prolong recovery.

MANAGEMENT: The use of opioids in conjunction with benzodiazepines or other CNS depressants should generally be avoided unless alternative treatment options are inadequate. If coadministration is necessary, the dosage and duration of each drug should be limited to the minimum required to achieve desired clinical effect. Patients receiving alfentanil with diazepam should be monitored closely for signs and symptoms of respiratory depression, altered hemodynamics, and hypotension. A dosage adjustment for one or both drugs may be required.
