Consumer:Talk to your doctor before using doxycycline together with amoxicillin. Combining these medications may reduce the effectiveness of amoxicillin. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:GENERALLY AVOID: Tetracyclines may reduce the effect of penicillins by inhibiting cellular protein synthesis which is necessary for cell wall synthesis inhibition by penicillins. Antagonism is more likely when low doses of either agent are administered. Therapeutic failure may result.
MANAGEMENT: This combination should be avoided if possible.
