Amethyst is a combination birth control pill containing female hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). Amethyst also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

Amethyst is used as contraception to prevent pregnancy. There are many brands and forms of this medicine available. Not all brands are listed on this leaflet.

Topical metronidazole is applied to the skin in adults to help control rosacea , also known as acne rosacea and “adult acne.” This medicine helps to reduce the redness of the skin and the number of pimples, usually found on the face, in patients with rosacea.
