Consumer:

Ask your doctor before using lithium together with aMILoride, this can increase the effects of lithium. Call your doctor at once if you have any early signs of lithium toxicity, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, muscle weakness, tremor, lack of coordination, blurred vision, or ringing in your ears. You may need a dose adjustment or special test if you take both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

GENERALLY AVOID: Amiloride may increase serum lithium levels, resulting in a high risk of lithium toxicity. The mechanism is reduced renal clearance of lithium.

MANAGEMENT: Concurrent use of diuretics and lithium should generally be avoided. Extreme caution is recommended if amiloride and lithium must be used together. Lithium levels should be monitored daily and lithium dose reductions may be required. Patients should be advised to notify their physician if they experience drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, ataxia, vomiting, diarrhea, tinnitus, tremor, thirst, blurry vision, or increased urination.
