Amiodarone Tablets and Choledyl Expectorant Elixir
Determining the interaction of Amiodarone Tablets and Choledyl Expectorant Elixir and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using amiodarone together with oxtriphylline can increase the effects of oxtriphylline. You should contact your doctor if you experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, restlessness, insomnia, seizures, or an irregular heartbeat. You may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Amiodarone may decrease the hepatic metabolism of theophylline. Increased theophylline serum concentrations may result. Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, or cirrhosis may have slower theophylline clearance rates; therefore, they may be at greater risk of developing theophylline toxicity.
MANAGEMENT: If these drugs are given concurrently, close clinical and laboratory monitoring of response and tolerance is recommended. An interaction may not become apparent for several weeks. Patients should be advised to notify their physician if they experience any signs of theophylline toxicity including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, restlessness, insomnia, seizures, or a worsening of their arrhythmia. It may be necessary to reduce theophylline dosage.
