Consumer:PHENobarbital may reduce the blood levels and effects of amLODIPine. Contact your doctor if your condition worsens or amLODIPine is no longer controlling your symptoms. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternative treatments that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring of your blood pressure and heart rate to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Barbiturates may increase the hepatic metabolism of some dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers by inducing CYP450 3A4 hepatic metabolism. The serum concentrations and effects of these calcium channel blockers may be significantly decreased.
MANAGEMENT: If concurrent administration cannot be avoided, the patient should be closely monitored for changes in pharmacologic effects whenever a barbiturate is initiated, discontinued or its dosage adjusted. An increased dosage of the calcium channel blocker may be necessary.
