The manufacturer reports that the coadministration of atorvastatin and Maalox TC (aluminum hydroxide-magnesium hydroxide) led to 35% decrease in plasma concentrations of atorvastatin. However, LDL-C reduction was not altered. The mechanism is unknown, but may be due to a chelation effect. The clinician may want to monitor the patient more closely for a decreased antihyperlipidemic effect.
