This may increase the risk and/or severity of side effects such as fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, difficulty breathing, muscle pain or cramps, low blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, convulsions, ringing in the ears, hearing loss, visual disturbances, and kidney damage. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: The concomitant use of micafungin and amphotericin B may increase systemic exposure to amphotericin. The mechanism is unknown. Coadministration resulted in a 30% increase in amphotericin exposure. Micafungin pharmacokinetics were not affected.
MANAGEMENT: The European manufacturers recommend that these drugs should only be coadministered if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Patients should be monitored for amphotericin toxicity.
