Anzemet (Dolasetron Injection) and Rifampin Oral, Intravenous
Determining the interaction of Anzemet (Dolasetron Injection) and Rifampin Oral, Intravenous and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Consumer information for this minor interaction is not currently available. Some minor drug interactions may not be clinically relevant in all patients. Minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, your healthcare provider can determine if adjustments to your medications are needed.
Professional:Blood levels of hydrodolasetron, the major active metabolite of dolasetron, were decreased 28% when dolasetron was given concomitantly for seven days with rifampin. The mechanism is thought to be induction of the metabolism of hydrodolasetron by rifampin via cytochrome P450 enzymes. The clinician may consider monitoring the patient more closely for decreased dolasetron effect if this combination is used. A similar interaction may occur with rifabutin, however, data are lacking.
