Apremilast and Carbamazepine Extended-Release Capsules (Carbatrol)
Determining the interaction of Apremilast and Carbamazepine Extended-Release Capsules (Carbatrol) and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:CarBAMazepine can significantly reduce the blood levels of apremilast, which may make the medication less effective in treating your condition. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:GENERALLY AVOID: Coadministration with potent inducers of CYP450 3A4 may significantly decrease the plasma concentrations of apremilast, which is primarily metabolized by the isoenzyme in vitro. According to the product labeling, administration of a single 30 mg oral dose of apremilast with the potent CYP450 inducer rifampin (600 mg once daily for 15 days) resulted in decreases of apremilast peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and systemic exposure (AUC) by 43% and 72%, respectively.
MANAGEMENT: Concomitant use of apremilast with potent CYP450 3A4 inducers should generally be avoided due to the potential for reduced efficacy.
