Consumer:

Consumer information for this minor interaction is not currently available. Some minor drug interactions may not be clinically relevant in all patients. Minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, your healthcare provider can determine if adjustments to your medications are needed.

Professional:

Salicylates may increase the potential for phenytoin toxicity (the active metabolite of fosphenytoin). The mechanism is competitive displacement of phenytoin from plasma protein binding sites. Caution is recommended if these drugs must be used together. Additionally, total plasma concentrations of phenytoin should be interpreted cautiously if a patient is taking aspirin, or other salicylates, because a greater amount of free drug may be present.
