Atorvastatin and Estradiol and Levonorgestrel
Determining the interaction of Atorvastatin and Estradiol and Levonorgestrel and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Consumer information for this minor interaction is not currently available. Some minor drug interactions may not be clinically relevant in all patients. Minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, your healthcare provider can determine if adjustments to your medications are needed.
Professional:Coadministration with atorvastatin may increase the plasma concentrations of estrogens and progestins. The exact mechanism of interaction is unknown but may be related to competitive inhibition of CYP450 3A4, the isoenzyme responsible for the metabolism of atorvastatin, estrogens, some (if not all) progestins, and other steroids. According to product labeling, atorvastatin increased the area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) of ethinyl estradiol by 20% and that of norethindrone by 30%. The clinical significance of these alterations is unknown but should be considered when selecting oral contraceptive and hormone replacement doses.
