Atovaquone and proguanil and Proloprim
Determining the interaction of Atovaquone and proguanil and Proloprim and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Consumer information for this minor interaction is not currently available. Some minor drug interactions may not be clinically relevant in all patients. Minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, your healthcare provider can determine if adjustments to your medications are needed.
Professional:Coadministration with atovaquone has been shown to slightly decrease the plasma concentrations of trimethoprim (TMP) and sulfamethoxazole (SMX). The mechanism of interaction is unknown. In six HIV-infected adult volunteers, administration of TMP-SMX (160 mg-800 mg orally twice daily) with atovaquone suspension (500 mg orally once daily) resulted in a 17% and 8% decrease in average steady-state concentrations of TMP and SMX in plasma, respectively, compared to administration without atovaquone. These changes are unlikely to be of clinical significance. TMP-SMX had no effect on the pharmacokinetics of atovaquone.
