Atropine-1 and Medihaler Ergotamine

Atropine causes the muscles in your eye to become relaxed. This widens (dilates) your pupil so that it will not respond to light.

Atropine-1 (for the eye) is used to dilate your pupils when you have an inflammatory condition or in postsurgery situations in which this effect may be helpful.

Atropine-1 is also used in people with a condition called amblyopia (sometimes called "lazy eye"). This medicine can be placed into the stronger eye to temporarily blur the vision in that eye. This helps strengthen the weaker eye because the brain will force that eye to work harder to focus.

Atropine-1 may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Ergotamine is in a group of drugs called ergot alkaloids (ER-got AL-ka-loids). It works by narrowing the blood vessels around the brain. Ergotamine also affects blood flow patterns that are associated with certain types of headaches.

Ergotamine is used to treat a migraine type headache.

This medication will only treat a headache that has already begun. It will not prevent migraine headaches or reduce the number of attacks.

Ergotamine should not be used to treat common tension headaches or any headache that seems to be different from your usual migraine headaches.
