Balcoltra is a combination birth control pill containing female hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). Balcoltra also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

Balcoltra is used as contraception to prevent pregnancy. There are many brands and forms of this medicine available. Not all brands are listed on this leaflet.

Treatment of complicated intra-abdominal infections caused by susceptible Enterobacter cloacae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella oxytoca, K. pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Providencia stuartii, or Pseudomonas aeruginosa; used in conjunction with metronidazole.

Treatment of complicated urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis, caused by susceptible E. coli, Citrobacter freundii, C. koseri, E. aerogenes, E. cloacae, K. pneumoniae, Proteus, or Ps. aeruginosa.
