Consumer:

Ask your doctor before using probenecid together with doripenem. Using these medications together can increase the effects of doripenem. This can cause headache, nausea, diarrhea, and rash. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

GENERALLY AVOID: Coadministration with probenecid may increase the plasma concentrations of doripenem. The mechanism involves competitive inhibition of the renal excretion of doripenem via active tubular secretion. In pharmacokinetic studies, probenecid increased doripenem systemic exposure (AUC) by 75% and plasma elimination half-life by 53%.

MANAGEMENT: The use of doripenem in combination with probenecid is not recommended by the manufacturer.
