Consumer:Pasireotide can occasionally cause slowing of the heart rate or other irregular heart rhythm, and combining it with medications like betaxolol ophthalmic may increase that risk. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if you develop dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, shortness of breath, chest pain, or heart palpitations during treatment. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: The risk of significant bradycardia and atrioventricular (AV) block may be increased during concomitant treatment of pasireotide with other drugs that slow heart rate or AV conduction such as beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, atazanavir, digitalis, flecainide, lacosamide, mefloquine, moricizine, and propafenone.
MANAGEMENT: Pasireotide has not been studied in patients receiving other bradycardic drugs. Because bradycardia and AV block are recognized risk factors for torsade de pointes arrhythmia, electrocardiographic monitoring is recommended prior to initiation of pasireotide and during treatment. Dose adjustments of beta blockers and calcium channel blockers or correction of electrolyte disturbances may be necessary.
