Brivaracetam Oral Solution and Rifampin Injection
Determining the interaction of Brivaracetam Oral Solution and Rifampin Injection and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:RifAMPin may reduce the blood levels of brivaracetam, which may make the medication less effective in treating your condition. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may already be aware of the interaction, but has determined that this is the best course of treatment for you and has taken appropriate precautions and is monitoring you closely for any potential complications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:ADJUST DOSE: Coadministration with rifampin may significantly decrease the plasma concentrations of brivaracetam. The proposed mechanism is rifampin induction of the CYP450 2C19-mediated metabolism of brivaracetam. In healthy study subjects, administration of brivaracetam with rifampin (600 mg/day for 5 days) resulted in a 45% decrease in brivaracetam systemic exposure (AUC) compared to administration alone.
MANAGEMENT: The manufacturer recommends increasing the brivaracetam dosage by up to 100% (i.e., doubling the dosage) when used with rifampin. Clinical response and tolerability should be monitored closely.
