Butorphanol is an opioid pain medication, sometimes called a narcotic.

Butorphanol is used to treat moderate to severe pain. It is also used as part of anesthesia for surgery, or during early labor (if childbirth is expected to be more than 4 hours away).

Xulane contains a combination of female hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). Xulane also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

Xulane (skin patch) is used as contraception to prevent pregnancy.
