Butrans skin patches contain buprenorphine, an opioid pain medication. An opioid is sometimes called a narcotic.

Butrans skin patches are used for around-the-clock treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain that is not controlled by other medicines.

Butrans is not for use on an as-needed basis for pain.

Motrin (ibuprofen) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Ibuprofen works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

Motrin is used to reduce fever and treat pain or inflammation caused by many conditions such as headache, toothache, back pain, arthritis, menstrual cramps, or minor injury.

Motrin is FDA-approved for adults and children who are at least 6 months old.
