Determining the interaction of Carafate (Sucralfate Oral Suspension) and Diclofenac (Systemic) and the possibility of their joint administration.

A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Consumer information for this minor interaction is not currently available. Some minor drug interactions may not be clinically relevant in all patients. Minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, your healthcare provider can determine if adjustments to your medications are needed.
Professional:Sucralfate may delay or decrease the pharmacologic effects of oral diclofenac. The mechanism may be related to reduced absorption. Data have conflicting and some studies suggest that sucralfate may have a protective effect on the gastric mucosa when taken with NSAIDs. Patients may be advised to take diclofenac 2 hours before or 6 hours after sucralfate if the interaction is to be avoided.
