Carbamazepine Extended-Release Capsules (Carbatrol) and Escitalopram Oral Solution
Determining the interaction of Carbamazepine Extended-Release Capsules (Carbatrol) and Escitalopram Oral Solution and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Consumer information for this minor interaction is not currently available. Some minor drug interactions may not be clinically relevant in all patients. Minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, your healthcare provider can determine if adjustments to your medications are needed.
Professional:The manufacturer of citalopram has reported that concomitant administration of carbamazepine with citalopram or escitalopram (both CYP450 3A4 substrates), did not significantly affect carbamazepine pharmacokinetics or citalopram or escitalopram levels. However, due to the enzyme inducing property of carbamazepine, the potential for increased clearance of citalopram should be considered. Dosage adjustments may be necessary if an interaction is suspected.
