Consumer:Ask your doctor before using traMADol together with carBAMazepine. Using these medications together may decrease the effects of traMADol. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:GENERALLY AVOID: Concomitant administration of carbamazepine increases tramadol metabolism, resulting in decreased serum concentrations and decreased efficacy. The suggested mechanism is CYP450 metabolic induction by carbamazepine. In addition, tramadol may increase the risk of seizures.
MANAGEMENT: Concomitant use of tramadol and carbamazepine is not recommended.
