Carbamazepine Oral Suspension and Voriconazole oral/injection
Determining the interaction of Carbamazepine Oral Suspension and Voriconazole oral/injection and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using voriconazole together with carBAMazepine is not recommended. Combining these medications may significantly reduce the blood levels of voriconazole, which may make the medication less effective in treating your fungal infection. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:CONTRAINDICATED: Coadministration with carbamazepine or long-acting barbiturates may significantly reduce the plasma concentrations of voriconazole. Although specific data are lacking, these agents are potent inducers of CYP450 isoenzymes that are responsible for the metabolic clearance of voriconazole and are expected to decrease the systemic exposure to voriconazole. Another potent CYP450 inducer, rifampin (600 mg once daily), decreased the steady-state peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) of voriconazole (200 mg every 12 hours for 7 days) by an average of 93% and 96%, respectively, in healthy subjects. According to the manufacturer, doubling the dose of voriconazole did not restore adequate systemic exposure to voriconazole during coadministration with rifampin.
MANAGEMENT: The use of voriconazole with carbamazepine or long-acting barbiturates is considered contraindicated.
