Consumer:

Using niCARdipine together with vecuronium can alter and prolong the effects of vecuronium. You should be monitored closely for breathing difficulty when these medications are used together. You may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: Nicardipine may increase the effects of vecuronium and significantly decrease the vecuronium dosage required to maintain a given level of neuromuscular depression. The mechanism is believed to be reduced plasma clearance of vecuronium. The reversal of vecuronium by neostigmine does not appear to be affected by nicardipine.

MANAGEMENT: Patients should be monitored for excessive and prolonged neuromuscular blockade. One study concluded that a clinical dose of nicardipine reduces vecuronium dosage requirements by as much as 53%.
