Cardioxane Injection and Nitroprusside

Dexrazoxane is used to protect the heart and other tissues from harmful side effects caused by certain cancer medications.

The Totect brand of dexrazoxane is used in men or women to treat a condition called extravasation (es-TRA-va-ZAY-shun). Extravasation happens when an injected medicine escapes from the blood vessels and circulates into tissues in the body. Serious tissue damage can occur when extravasation happens during injection of certain cancer medications.

The Zinecard brand of dexrazoxane is used to help prevent chemotherapy-related heart problems in women who are receiving doxorubicin for metastatic breast cancer. Zinecard is given only after you have received enough doxorubicin infusions to amount to a certain total dose.

Nitroprusside is a vasodilator that works by relaxing the muscles in your blood vessels to help them dilate (widen). This lowers blood pressure and allows blood to flow more easily through your veins and arteries.

Nitroprusside is used to treat congestive heart failure and life-threatening high blood pressure (hypertension). Nitroprusside is also used to keep blood pressure low during a surgery.
