Cardizem CD and Flecainide
Determining the interaction of Cardizem CD and Flecainide and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using dilTIAZem together with flecainide can increase the effects of either medication. This can cause dizziness, weakness, chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, an unusually fast or slow heartbeat, coma, slurred speech, and confusion. You may need a dose adjustment or need your blood pressure checked more often if you take both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR CLOSELY: Limited data indicate that verapamil and flecainide may have additive cardiodepressant effects. In pharmacokinetic studies with healthy volunteers, there were minor effects on drug plasma concentrations and QRS intervals were prolonged. However, cases of cardiogenic shock, asystole, and death have been reported in patients receiving flecainide and verapamil. Diltiazem may interact with flecainide in a similar manner, although no data are available.
MANAGEMENT: The patient should be monitored closely when either drug is added to the regimen or when dose increases are made.
