Consumer:Using cycloSPORINE together with carvedilol may increase the effects of cycloSPORINE. Contact your doctor if you experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dizziness, fatigue, or headache. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Carvedilol may modestly increase cyclosporine blood concentrations leading to toxicity. The exact mechanism responsible for this increase is unknown. In a clinical study, 30% of patients required cyclosporine dose reductions averaging 20%; however, there is wide interindividual variability.
MANAGEMENT: If these medications must be used concomitantly, cyclosporine concentrations and serum creatinine should be monitored, and the patient should be observed for cyclosporine toxicity. Dosages should be adjusted as needed.
