Relevance: 08.06.2022 Reviewer: Shkutko P.M., M.D., in

In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.

Consumer:

RifAMPin may reduce the blood levels of celecoxib, which may make the medication less effective in treating your condition. Contact your doctor if your symptoms worsen or your condition changes. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

MONITOR: Coadministration with rifampin may decrease the plasma concentrations of celecoxib. The proposed mechanism is rifampin induction of celecoxib metabolism via CYP450 2C9. When a single 200 mg dose of celecoxib was administered to 12 healthy volunteers following pretreatment with rifampin 600 mg once daily for 5 days, celecoxib peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and systemic exposure (AUC) decreased by 56% and 64%, respectively, while clearance increased by 185%.

MANAGEMENT: The potential for diminished pharmacologic effects of celecoxib should be considered during coadministration with rifampin. Dose adjustments or alternative treatments may be required if an interaction is suspected.
