Relevance: 28.05.2022 Reviewer: Shkutko P.M., M.D., in

In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.

Consumer:

Talk to your doctor before using chenodeoxycholic acid together with aluminum hydroxide. Products that contain aluminum may interfere with the absorption of chenodeoxycholic acid and reduce its effectiveness. It may be possible to prevent or minimize the interaction by separating the dosing times by several hours. However, your doctor may be able to suggest safer alternatives to aluminum hydroxide while you are being treated with chenodeoxycholic acid. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Aluminum-based antacids have been shown to adsorb bile acids in vitro and may be expected to interfere with the gastrointestinal absorption of chenodeoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring human bile acid.

MANAGEMENT: To minimize the potential for interaction, it may be helpful to separate the dosing of chenodeoxycholic acid and aluminum-based antacids by several hours. However, clinical data are lacking to support a recommendation.
