Chloroquine is used to prevent and treat malaria. It is also used to treat liver infection caused by protozoa (extraintestinal amebiasis).

Chloroquine belongs to a group of medicines known as antimalarials. It works by preventing or treating malaria, a red blood cell infection transmitted by the bite of a mosquito. However, chloroquine is not used to treat severe or complicated malaria and to prevent malaria in areas or regions where chloroquine is known not to work (resistance).

Chloroquine is available only with your doctor's prescription.

Librax is a capsule containing a combination of chlordiazepoxide and clidinium. Chlordiazepoxide is a benzodiazepine that affects chemicals in the brain that may be unbalanced. Clidinium reduces stomach acid and decreases intestinal spasms.

Librax is a medicine that may be effective in treating stomach ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, or symptoms related to intestinal infection. Librax is given together with other medications to treat these conditions.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has determined that Librax is "possibly" effective in treating these conditions.
