Consumer:

Colesevelam may interfere with the absorption of cholic acid and reduce its effectiveness in treating your condition. You should take cholic acid at least 1 hour before or 4 to 6 hours (or at as great an interval as possible) after colesevelam. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medication without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: Bile acid binding resins can adsorb bile acids and may reduce the bioavailability of cholic acid. Aluminum-based antacids have been shown to adsorb bile acids in vitro and may interact similarly.

MANAGEMENT: Cholic acid should be taken at least 1 hour before or 4 to 6 hours (or at as great an interval as possible) after a bile acid binding resin or aluminum-based antacid.
