Consumer:

Using zidovudine together with cidofovir may alter the effects of zidovudine. Contact your doctor if you experience increased side effects or if your condition changes. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

ADJUST DOSE: There is no evidence that cidofovir affects the pharmacokinetics of zidovudine. However, probenecid, which is given in conjunction with cidofovir, reduces the metabolic clearance of zidovudine.

MANAGEMENT: Zidovudine therapy should be temporarily discontinued, or the zidovudine dose should be reduced by 50%, on days when cidofovir and probenecid are administered. The usual zidovudine therapy may be resumed on days when the patient is not receiving cidofovir and probenecid.
