Cimetidine and Tiotropium Bromide
Determining the interaction of Cimetidine and Tiotropium Bromide and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Consumer information for this minor interaction is not currently available. Some minor drug interactions may not be clinically relevant in all patients. Minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, your healthcare provider can determine if adjustments to your medications are needed.
Professional:Coadministration with cimetidine is not expected to significantly alter the pharmacokinetics of orally inhaled tiotropium. In one study, concomitant administration of cimetidine (400 mg three times daily) and tiotropium (14.4 mcg intravenously over 15 minutes) resulted in a 20% increase in the 4-hour area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) and a 28% decrease in the renal clearance of tiotropium. Tiotropium peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and total amount excreted in urine over 96 hours were not affected. These changes are unlikely to be of clinical significance.
