Cimetidine Sodium Chloride and E. E. S.
Determining the interaction of Cimetidine Sodium Chloride and E. E. S. and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Using erythromycin together with cimetidine may increase the effects of erythromycin. Contact your doctor if you experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, or hearing loss. If your doctor does prescribe these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Professional:MONITOR: Concomitant use of cimetidine and erythromycin may result in higher-than-normal plasma levels of erythromycin through inhibition of CYP450 metabolism by cimetidine. One small study has reported an increase of 73% in the area under the plasma concentration-time curve. Bilateral hearing loss occurred in one patient who had renal dysfunction and was receiving a high dose of erythromycin. This interaction may occur with other macrolide antibiotics.
MANAGEMENT: The patient should be monitored for evidence of adverse effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain. Ranitidine, nizatidine and famotidine do not inhibit CYP450 and would not be expected to affect erythromycin levels at recommended doses.
