Consumer:Using ZOLMitriptan together with cimetidine may increase the effects of ZOLMitriptan. Professional:ADJUST DOSE: Following the administration of cimetidine, the half-life and AUC of zolmitriptan and the active metabolite were increased by two-fold. The proposed mechanism is inhibition of CYP450 1A2 isoenzymes by cimetidine. Due to limited data, the clinical consequences of this interaction are unknown.
MANAGEMENT: It is recommended that not more than 5 mg of zolmitriptan should be taken in 24 hours during concomitant use of cimetidine. Patients should be advised to notify their doctor promptly if they experience sedation, dizziness, paresthesia, chest pain or tightness, shortness of breath, or irregular heartbeats.
