Consumer:

Ask your doctor before using cisatracurium together with polymyxin B sulfate. Using these medications together may cause serious breathing problems. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

GENERALLY AVOID: Polymyxin B may prolong apnea and respiratory paralysis after use of neuromuscular blocking agents. The mechanism may be related to decreased intracellular potassium or decreased ionized serum calcium. Intravenous calcium administration may be helpful in reversing the paralysis.

MANAGEMENT: This combination should be avoided unless the benefit outweighs the risk. Patients should be closely monitored for signs of extended neuromuscular blockade.
