Professional:One case report has described the development of parkinsonian symptoms (akinesia, bradykinesia, masked facies, shuffling gait, rigidity) in a patient receiving tacrine and haloperidol concurrently. The interaction may have to do with the fact that tacrine is a cholinergic agent and that haloperidol is a dopamine inhibitor, whose effects might potentiate parkinsonism. The patient should be monitored for parkinsonian symptoms if tacrine, haloperidol or a combination is used.
