Colchicine and probenecid and Zovirax (Acyclovir Capsules and Tablets)
Determining the interaction of Colchicine and probenecid and Zovirax (Acyclovir Capsules and Tablets) and the possibility of their joint administration.
In the database of official manuals used in the service creation an interaction registered by statistical results of studies was found, which can either lead to negative consequences for the patient health or strengthen a mutual positive effect. A doctor should be consulted to address the issue of joint drug administration.
Consumer:Consumer information for this minor interaction is not currently available. Some minor drug interactions may not be clinically relevant in all patients. Minor drug interactions do not usually cause harm or require a change in therapy. However, your healthcare provider can determine if adjustments to your medications are needed.
Professional:The coadministration of probenecid and acyclovir may result in elevated plasma concentrations of acyclovir. In 3 subjects with normal renal function, probenecid 1 gram increased the area under the plasma concentration-time curve and terminal plasma half-life of acyclovir (5 mg/kg intravenously) by an average of 40% and 18%, respectively. Renal clearance decreased an average of 32%. The mechanism is competitive inhibition of acyclovir renal tubular secretion by probenecid. Although this interaction is unlikely to be of clinical significance, caution may be advisable if acyclovir is used concomitantly with probenecid.
