Consumer:

Ask your doctor before using colestipol together with raloxifene. Using these medications together can decrease the effects of raloxifene. Colestipol may bind to raloxifene in the intestines and prevent raloxifene from being utilized by the body. Take raloxifene at least 1 hour before or 4 to 6 hours after taking a dose of colestipol. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Professional:

GENERALLY AVOID: Cholestyramine has been shown to cause a 60% reduction in the absorption and enterohepatic recycling of raloxifene. The mechanism has not been described, but is probably due to a binding phenomenon occurring in the intestine. A similar reaction may occur with colestipol, although data is lacking.

MANAGEMENT: The manufacturer recommends that these drugs not be coadministered.
